Taxonomy

The genus Tetraponera was established by F. Smith (1852). The genus was recently revised by Ward (2001).

Distribution

Seven species have been known from Vietnam.

Bionomics

Vietnamese Tetraponera spp. are arboreal, and nest in living and dead branches of standing trees. We often encountered colonies nesting in or moving from branches newly fallen down.
