(Subfamily Myrmicinae)


The genus Proatta was established by Forel (1912), and is assigned to Stenammini by Bolton (1994, 2003).

Five species has been known from Vietnam.

Proatta butteli is found in lowland forests of southern Vietnam, and nests under stones and wood fragments and in soil around tree bases. Adults are brick red and dull and are clad in dirt, and they freeze for a while when their nests are exposed, so they easily escape from our sight.
