ABOUT US

Since Prof. Seiki Yamane (Kagoshima University, Japan), a famous Japanese Myrmecologist, and his student Dr. Hirofumi Okido (Fukuoka, Japan) visited Viet in 1998, Viet has intensively studied ants in Vietnam. While Eguchi has conducted his master and doctoral project titled "Taxonomic Revision of Bornean Species of the Ant Genus Pheidole" under the supervision by Prof. Yamane since 1996. In October 1999 we met together in the first workshop of the International Network for the Study of Asian Ants (ANeT) held in Kasetsart University, Thailand. After the workshop Eguchi visited Vietnam for the first time, and we together with Dr. Okido conducted field surveys in Tam Dao NP and Ba Vi NP. Two years later (November 2001) Viet organized the 3rd ANeT workshop in the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, Hanoi, Vietnam. Since 2002 we have conducted joint surveys in various localities of Vietnam, often in collaboration with Prof. Yamane, Prof. Kazuo Ogata (Kyushu University, Japan) and Dr. Okido.

For these years we have established a good partnership and also a good friendship spanning a large generation gap between us (more than a quarter of a century!) through solving many difficulties and problems in remote areas. Using our small research budget but spraying liters of sweat we have always got many "fruits". We would like to present this digital product as the most reliable evidence of our success and of our belief that the real internatinal collaboration can be built up only through such sweat-soaked process.
