Eguchi, K. 2008. A revision of Northern Vietnamese species of the ant genus Pheidole (Insecta: Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae). Zootaxa1902:1-118.

Northern Vietnamese species of the ant genus Pheidole (Myrmicinae: Pheidolini) were revised, and 31 species including six new species were recognized: capellinii Emery, colpigaleata Eguchi, dugasi Forel, elongicephala sp.n., fervens F. Smith, fervida F. Smith, fortis Eguchi, foveolata Eguchi, gatesi (Wheeler), hongkongensis Wheeler, indosinensis Wheeler stat.n., laevicolor Eguchi, laevithorax sp.n., magna Eguchi, megacephala (Fabricius), noda F. Smith, ochracea sp.n., parva Mayr, pieli Santschi, plagiaria F. Smith, planifrons Santschi, rabo Forel, rugithorax sp.n., smythiesii Forel, taipoana Wheeler, tjibodana Forel, tumida sp.n., vieti sp.n., vulgaris Eguchi, yeensis Forel, zoceana Santschi. The following cases of synonymy were resolved: Myrmica agilis F. Smith as a junior synonym of Pheidole megacephala; Pheidole rhombinoda var. stella Forel, P. rhombinoda var. formosensis Forel, P. rhombinoda var. taprobanae Forel, and P. nodus var. flebilis Santschi as junior synonyms of P. noda; Pheidole peguensis r. yomensis as a junior synonym of P. plagiaria; and Pheidole smythiesii var. bengalensis Forel and P. bhavanae Bingham as junior synonyms of P. smythiesii. The lectotype was designated for the following species: Pheidole dugasi, P. rhombinoda var. stella, P. peguensis r. yomensis and P. sulcaticeps r. yeensis. A key to N. Vietnamese species of Pheidole based on the worker caste is given.

Two species of the ant genus Acanthomyrmex EMERY, 1893 are recognized from Vietnam. Acanthomyrmex humilis sp.n. is described based on the major worker, minor worker and ergatoid queen. The major worker, queen, "dwarf queen", and male of A. glabfemoralis ZHOU & ZHENG, 1997 are also described for the first time, and the minor worker of this species is redescribed. Notes on the colony structure are given.

ナミバラアリ属(Acanthomyrmex EMERY)に属するアリ2種をベトナムから確認した.そのうち1種を大型働きアリ,小型働きアリそして職蟻型女王アリの形態的特長に依拠して新種Acanthomyrmex humilisとして記載した.さらにA. glabfemoralis ZHOU & ZHENG, 1997の大型働きアリ,女王アリ,矮小女王アリそして雄アリを始めて記載し,小型働きアリを再記載した.コロニー構造についての新知見もあわせて提供した.

Yamane, Sk., Bui, T.V. & Eguchi, K. 2008. Opamyrma hungvuong, a new genus and species of ant related to Apomyrma (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Amblyoponinae). Zootaxa 1767: 55–63

The amblyoponine genus Opamyrma is newly established for a single new species, O. hungvuong, found from central Vietnam. The genus is morphologically very close to the genus Apomyrma known from the Afrotropical region, but is well distinguished from the latter by a combination of the following features in the worker of the former: preoccipital carina complete, almost encircling the head slightly before its posterior margin; clypeus posteriorly margined with a distinct continuous carina; petiole without a distinct anterior peduncle; abdominal segment III longer than IV, V and VI; segment VII longest among the segments III-VII; anteriormost part of abdominal sternite III produced anteriad to the same level as the anteriormost part of the tergite III; abdominal segment IV with differentiated presternite. The new genus is tentatively assigned to the subfamily Amblyoponinae.

Eguchi, K. & Bui, T.V. 2007. Ecological notes on a plant ant, Cladomyrma scopulosa Eguchi & Bui (Hymenoptera, Formicidae, Formicinae) associating with a tree species Saraca dives Pierre (Leguminosae). Asian Myrmecology, 1: 51–58.

In north and north-central Vietnam colony structure and other aspects of biology of Cladomyrma scopulosa Eguchi & Bui associating with a tree species Saraca dives Pierre were recorded. Within the genus Cladomyrma a colony structure with multiple dealate queens has been seen almost exclusively in C. scopulosa. Our limited observations suggest that secondary polygyny at the early founding stage, or even primary polygyny, often occur in C. scopulosa. The colony may become progressively more polygynous by accepting supplementary queens. Genetic relatedness among dealate queens, however, was not estimated in the present study.

Five species are recognized among infraspecific taxa of Pheidole rinae Emery: P. rinae Emery, P. hongkongensis Wheeler, P. parva Mayr (senior synonym of P. parva var. decanica Forel, P. rinae var. mala Forel, P. rinae race tipuna Forel and P. sauteri Wheeler), P. pieli Santschi (senior synonym of P. rinae subsp. incensa Wheeler), and P. taipoana Wheeler. Pheidole nodgii var. zoceana Santschi is raised to species level; it seems to be closely related to P. parva and P. rabo Forel but not to the P. nodgii group. P. tsailuni Wheeler is a junior synonym of P. rabo.

Pheidole rinae Emeryの種内分類を再検討した結果,以下の5種が認識された:P. rinae Emery, P. hongkongensis Wheeler, P. parva Mayr (P. parva var. decanica Forel,P. rinae var. mala Forel,P. rinae race tipuna Forelそして P. sauteri Wheelerの古参シノニム),P. pieli Santschi (P. rinae subsp. incensa Wheelerの古参シノニム)そして P. taipoana Wheeler.Pheidole nodgii var. zoceana Santschiは種へ格上げされた.本種はnodgii種群ではなくP. parvaやP. raboに近縁であると思われる.P. tsailuni WheelerはP. raboの新参シノニムである.

Eguchi, K. & Bui, T.V. 2007. Parvimyrma gen. nov. belonging to the Solenopsis genus group from Vietnam (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae: Solenopsidini). Zootaxa 1461: 39–47.

The myrmicine ant genus Parvimyrma is newly established for a single new species found from N. Vietnam. The genus is undoubtedly placed in the Solenopsis genus group, and it is distinguished from the other genera belonging to the genus group by a combination of the following features: posteromedian portion of clypeus narrowly inserted between frontal lobes; masticatory margin of mandible with 5 distinct teeth; antenna 11-segmented, with a 2-segmented club; eye completely absent; promesonotum in profile almost flat or very weakly convex dorsally; metanotal groove relatively shallowly impressed dorsally; propodeum unarmed; propodeal spiracle small, situated a little behind the midlength of the sides of propodeum; metapleural gland large; petiolar peduncle with a small anteroventral process; postpetiole narrowly attached to the anteriormost end of gaster; sting poorly developed.

フタフシアリ亜科ミジンアリ属がベトナム北部産の1新種を元に創設された.この属は間違いなくトフシアリ属群に属するが,同属群の他属とは以下の特徴の組み合わせにより識別される:額隆起片に挟まれた頭楯後方中央部分は非常に狭い;大顎咀嚼縁は5つの明瞭な歯を備える;触角は11節で,棍棒部は2節;複眼は完全に消失;前中胸背面は側方から見てほぼ平坦かわずかに凸型;後胸溝は背面で比較的浅く刻まれる;前伸腹節刺を欠く;前伸腹節気門は小さく,側面の中央よりやや後ろに位置する;後胸側板腺は大きい;腹柄節柄部前方腹側に小さな突起を有す;後腹柄節と膨腹部の接点は狭い;針の発達は弱い.

Eguchi, K., Yoshimura, M. & Yamane, Sk. 2006. The Oriental species of the ant genus Probolomyrmex (Insecta: Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Proceratiinae). Zootaxa, 1376: 1–35.

Ten species of the proceratiine ant genus Probolomyrmex are recognized in the Oriental Region: bidens Brown, dammermani Wheeler, itoi sp. nov., longinodus Terayama et Ogata, longiscapus Xu et Zeng, maryatiae sp. nov., okinawensis Terayama et Ogata, procne Brown, vieti sp. nov. and watanabei Tanaka. The ten species and two Australian species can be classified into two species groups. The longinodus group is characterized by the petiole which is clearly longer than high, and subpetiolar process which is low with poorly developed posteroventral portion. The greavesi group is characterized by the petiole which is at most a little longer than high, and subpetiolar process which is developed and somewhat rectangular. Males of dammermani and longiscapus, and queens of dammermani, longinodus, longiscapus and watanabei were described for the first time. A key to the Oriental species of the genus is also given.

カギバラアリ族ハナナガアリ属の東洋区に産する種を分類学的に再検討した結果,以下の10種が東洋区から確認された.それらは,bidens Brown,dammermani Wheeler,itoi新種,ホソハナナガアリTerayama et Ogata,longiscapus Xu et Zeng,maryatiae新種,ハナナガアリTerayama et Ogata,procne Brown,vieti新種そして watanabei Tanakaである.それら10種とオーストラリア区に産する2種は2つの種群に大別できる.ホソハナナガアリ種群は腹柄節が長い(高さよりも明らかに長い),腹柄節下部突起が低く,その後部の発達が悪いといった形態的特徴を持つ.他方,greavesi種群は腹柄節が短い(せいぜい高さよりもわずかに長い程度),腹柄節下部突起が発達し,多少とも四角くなるといった形態的特徴を持つ.本研究により初めてdammermani及びlongiscapusの雄,dammermanilonginoduslongiscapus,及びwatanabeiの女王が記載された.また,東洋区の種の検索表が提示された.

Eguchi, K., Hashimoto, Y. & Malsch, A.K.F. 2006. Pheidole schoedli sp.n. (Hymenoptera: Formicidae), a subterranean species found from North Borneo. Myrmecologische Nachrichten, 8: 31–34.

Pheidole schoedli sp. n. is described from N. Borneo. The present species seems to be closely related to Pheidole parvicorpus Eguchi, 2001, but is distinguished well from the latter in having the head of the major covered with two types of hairs, the antennal segment X of the major and minor longer than its width, and other morphological characteristics of the antennal scapes, eyes, and gaster. The species is considered a subterranean ant because (1) the specimens were found in soil samples but not in the litter samples; (2) eyes are extremely reduced and body color is yellowish. Thus, this species and P. parvicorpus, which is also presumably subterranean, are ecologically unique among Bornean Pheidole species.

邦題:ボルネオ北部から見つかった地中性のアリの新種Pheidole schoedli

オオズアリ属の新種,Pheidole schoedli,をボルネオ北部から記載した.本種はPheidole parvicorpusと近縁であると思われるが,大型働きアリの頭部が2タイプの毛により覆われること,触角第10節が幅よりも長いこと,そのほか触角柄節,複眼そして膨腹部の形態的特徴により,Pheidole parvicorpusからは明確に区別される.標本が土壌サンプルのみから得られていることや目が著しく縮小し,体色が黄色を呈することから,本種は土中生活者であると考えられる.従って,本種及び同じく土中生活者と考えられているPheidole parvicorpusは,ボルネオに生息するオオズアリ類の中では生態的に興味深い種である.
